The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company was founded in 1900 by Harvey Firestone in the rubber capital of the world—Akron, Ohio. Firestone became the original equipment supplier to Ford Motor Company for the Model T in 1906, and Firestone continued producing tires for the replacement market, which kept the business growing until 1988. In 1988, Firestone was purchased by Bridgestone Tire Company, and is still owned by Bridgestone today.
